After five days of melodious moments and highlights, yesterday evening the 10th folkBALTICA festival came to a close with a sold-out concert in the Marienkirche.

Nordic Fiddlers’ Bloc opened the evening with a Swedish polka before turning the stage over to the Berlin Trio Rosenrot, who amazed the audience with the inimitable voice of Jennifer Kothe. They were followed by the lads from Big Basco, who whirled about the stage musically and dancingly. After the break, the “German Rolling Stones”, Schmelztiegel, gave a foretaste of their 40th stage anniversary, followed by the three charismatic musicians from Dreamers’ Circus. As last year, so almost traditionally, our folkBALTICA Ensemble provided a thrilling and brilliant closing set. Hardly surprising that after such an evening the audience was not satisfied with just giving applause, but with a standing ovation called on all the players to come and give a final “encore” together. And what would the close of the folkBALTICA Festival have been without a joint rendition of “Dat du min Leevsten büst”?

For a successful festival full of wonderful music, the folkBALTICA Team expresses its heartfelt thanks to all the artists, associated, co-organisers and sponsors, and of course our voluntary helpers, without whom such a mammoth project would not be conceivable.

We’re looking forward to next year!
