Wenzel comes from the east. He released his masterpiece LP “Stirb mit mir ein Stück” , the legendary productions “Hammer Revue” and “Sichel Operette” back when the GDR still existed. In 2002 he won the German Cabaret Award in the category Chanson/Song/Music, and in 2008 the German Best Song List Prize. All his concerts are adventures. Wenzel is unique.  He knows how to juggle with words and music better than any other, combining melancholy and lust for life in his own inimitable way. Wenzel’s songs add music to irritatingly beautiful poetry, giving sound to caustic images. He presents world music with razor-sharp German lyrics between polka, chanson, klezmer, rock, performance and classical.  For listening to, for marvelling at, for laughing and crying to, and for enduring. Wenzel is the jester. Hold’s a mirror up to his own face. Kings are his audience.
Characteristic for Wenzel are also his way of setting great lyrics by other artists to music, such as works by Theodor Kramer and more recently Woody Guthrie.
folkBALTICA presents Wenzel with three programmes: a musical reading, a solo performance, and with his formidable band and excerpts from his current “Camomile and Poppy” programme.
